Work of Mercy: Feed the Homeless

To obtain the volunteer forms and receive the details of the event location, please email olopyoungadults@gmail.com

Our Lady of Peace Young Adults Group has committed to going the FIRST SUNDAY OF EACH MONTH to cook and serve breakfast to the homeless. Since our first Work of Mercy of Feeding the Hungry in March was such a great success and we were able to share the love of Christ with over 150 homeless persons, we have decided to continue on a monthly basis.

The dates in 2018 are: May 6, June 3, July 1, August 5, September 2, October 7, November 4, December 2.

Generally, we will would like at least 10 volunteers each time we go.

Schedule:
5:00 am- Arrive and cook breakfast (at least 6 people)
6:00am- The serving volunteers arrive (at least 4 more people)
6:30-7:30 am- Breakfast is served
7:30-8:00 am- Clean up

If this is your first time volunteering, we ask that you complete and sign a code of conduct, and volunteer agreement to turn in when you arrive Sunday. Please email the OLOP Young Adults Core Team at olopyoungadults@gmail.com to obtain these forms!

This only needs to be completed one time so if you have already filled one out, you will not have to fill it out again. On that day volunteers must wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, long pant/skirt and shirts with sleeves (no tank top/sleeveless tops and long hair should be worn back. Furthermore, for those planning on volunteering for more than 8 hours each month, the shelter asks that we provide them with records of our TB test results, which has to be less than two years old.

If you can’t come but would still like to help, you can always donate money to support the Young Adults Group when they provide food as well as cooking. Monetary donations can be dropped off at the Our Lady of Peace Parish Office or given to Mother Bon Secours. Please make donations payable to Our Lady of Peace with a memo to the Young Adults Group.
