Parish Volunteers Fingerprinting Session

May 30, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Thursday, May 30th
Family Learning Center
6pm, 7pm, and 8pm

Please RSVP by calling 408-988-4585 x2125 (Karen Ruiz)

All of our many volunteers are appreciated for how they have blessed the parish with gifts of time and talent.  It has been many years since we started fingerprinting all volunteers to make sure background checks are cleared for the protection of children and vulnerable adults. On-line and parish classes are offered each year to make sure every volunteer knows how to report possible cases of abuse to the authorities. Both fingerprinting and class completion are required to retain “SAFE” status.

We are currently assessing our database to confirm volunteer status. At this point, if you are late in being fingerprinted or taking another class, then we must thank you for your many, many years of selfless service. You are appreciated and the parish has been blessed by your contributions. HOWEVER, we must also ask you to step down until you are in full compliance.

If you are unsure about your status, please email Clorie Lopez at clorinda.lopez@dsj.org or Kathleen Lara at kathleen.lara@dsj.org or call our parish office at 408-988-4585.

When you are in full compliance, we will eagerly welcome you back.

SAFE Status Requirements:

  1. Fill out a Volunteer Application Form (available in old hall and in the rectory).
  2. Get a fingerprint approval form from the parish office signed by a volunteer coordinator. (for example, if you plan to volunteer in the library, you need to obtain approval from the librarian. She signs the form before you go for fingerprinting).
  3. Visit verifygroup.com to schedule a livescan fingerprint OR Get fingerprinted at OLOP (Gym) on Thursday, May 30, 2019. We will be scheduling fingerprints for 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm.  Please RSVP by calling 408-988-4585 x2125 (Karen Ruiz).
  4. We can not access fingerprints from other institutions like the military or schools, so you must get fingerprinted through Verify Group.
  5. If you were fingerprinted prior to 2014, you may need to be fingerprinted as the procedure changed.  Check with the parish if you are unsure of the date.
  6. You will be given a form on-site to complete with your driver’s license number, your social security number, birthplace, and contact information.
  7. There is a fee of $20 (the parish pays an additional $45).
  8. Be sure to take a government issued photo ID

Visit www.virtusonline.com for on-line classes for  “Protecting God’s Children.  If you have contact with elderly or other vulnerable adults, also do the “Vulnerable Adults” training.   If you do not have access to a computer, contact the rectory office for assistance to use a computer.

  1. Print the certificates at the end of each training and turn in to your volunteer supervisor or coordinator (and to rectory office).  The certificates expire every 3 years and the training has to be done again.
  2. Sign a “Volunteer Activities Waiver” form (available in the old hall and rectory).
  3. Turn in completed forms to parish office before beginning any volunteer work (includes ushers, musicians, lectors, catechists, maintenance people, event planners, etc…)

If you have any questions or need assistance with the forms, feel free to visit a staff member at the church entrance after all Sunday Masses on May 26th until 8pm.
